Had
you seen any of the other Wicked productions prior to
accepting the role?
Yes. I saw the original cast and I saw it two years
later.
Have you read Maguire's novel,
Wicked - The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of
the West?
Yes, I read the book after I saw the show. I think it
just gave me more information on the characters, a little
more depth and more to work with.
What is your favourite scene?
I love the last scene with Elphaba going into and after
‘For Good’, it’s the real characters with the public
façade removed.
What is your favourite song?
Mmmm… tricky. I obviously love performing ‘Popular’
but enjoy the emotional range of ‘Thank Goodness’.
What is your favourite costume?
Act Two opening outfit. So beautifully made and stunning
to look at!
Who is your favourite character?
Glinda, because she’s quite complicated, but simple
too…
What, if any, have been you
biggest show/ prop / costume mishaps?
In this show I forgot my words once, but in other shows
I’ve fallen over, gotten stuck to scenery, very nearly
lost my wig… the list goes on…
What are your characters top
3 priorities in life?
I guess she world want to be loved, not be alone… her
priorities change throughout the show.
What has been the highlight
of your career, so far?
These are many moments that stand out… Cosette at an
open air concert for 26,000 people was one of them.
Which do you prefer most,
touring of West End, and why?
West End is nice as you are at home and touring in nice
if you have friends in the company and you're visitng
nice cities. But I really like regional theatre work
too.
Personally, are you more a
Glinda or an Elphaba?
I don't know. Aspects of both I guess, but possibly
more of an Elphaba.
What is it like to be a stand-by?
Not great to be honest. It's very difficult to stay
in touch with the show when you're not doing it all
the time. You spend your time waiting for someone else
to be ill!! Wouldn't do it again!!
What do you do to entertain
yourself during the show?
Sing along to the show, watch TV, answer fan letters,
run up your phone bills etc…
If you went to another show
with a similar stand-by/understudy set-up as Wicked,
would you prefer to be stand-by or understudy?
Neither
How did you try to differ
your interpretation of Glinda from the other Glindas
around the world?
I just want my Glinda to be true to me. I didn't go
out of my way to be different, but I think it's important
to be original where possible.
If you could change one thing
about your character, what would it be?
Slightly more comfortable shoes!! Aside from that, I
wouldn't want to change anything, she's a challenge
to play. Therefore, fulfilling to work on.
What to you think it is that
makes Glinda so popular - money, status, charisma, etc?
Charisma definitely
How many different wigs does
Glinda have?
Three - Older Glinda (opening and end)
Younger Glinda (most of act 1)
Up Do Glinda (opening act 2)
What do you like about the
bubble experience?
It's fun and a fabulous entrance… and who doesn't like
bubbles?!
What do you hate about the
bubble experience?
Nothing. I'm not afraid of heights and you feel totally
safe.
Your Popular is one of, if
not the most, physically demanding interpretation of
the song. What is your secret for keeping so energised
throughout, especially when it comes to that scene?
Having fun. It's completely not me that scene. The dress,
the ideals, etc. It's an excuse for me to be outrageous!
We all had the privlege of
watching your Glinda get immortalised on tapes/DVDs
across the country when you got to perform on Children
In Need. What was that whole experience like?
Slightly terrifying!! I had only performed the role
3 times, so didn't quite feel comfortable with it yet.
Would love to do it now I know what I'm doing!
If you have the choice, would
you have preferred to perform on Children in Need or
the Royal Variety Performance?
Either. They are both fantastic and I haven't done either
before.
Have you enjoyed your time
at Wicked?
It's been fantastic to perform the role and I've made
some wonderful friends, but being a stand-by has been
very difficult.
What has been the best thing
that has happened to you during the Wicked experience?
The friends I've made. Kerry, Adam and Shona have made
me laugh a lot.
What have you not done on
Wicked that you wished you had?
Been a Flat-head!
What lessons/discoveries are
you going to take away from Wicked?
I've learnt a lot about patience on this job!
What/who are you going to
miss when you leave?
Kerry Ellis, Adam Murray, Shona White and Jye Frasca
Do you have any future plans
for when you leave Wicked? i.s. Shows, concerts, gigs?
A holiday! Nothing in the pipeline yet, but that's part
of the fun!
Everyone in the show is wicked
at some point or another. Which character do you think
is the wickedest and why?
Madame Morrible. She has no remorse.
If you had to be stranded
on a desert island with one of the characters from Wicked,
who would it be and why?
Fiyero… for obvious reasons!
Since we have been asking
you all the questions, are there any questions you would
like to ask the fans?
No questions, but a general 'thanks' for everyone's
support over my time here. The fans are great on this
show!
EDITOR'S NOTE: Ms Beechey very
kindly agreed to answer the above questions for us here
at WickedUK.co.uk. We would therefore like to take this
